The Acupuncture BACK PAIN Clinic
Low Back Pain (LBP) affects up to 80% of all people at some time during their lives and has a significant economic impact on individuals and on society.* LBP is considered to be one of the UK's main reasons for work-related sickness absence, causing millions of lost working days every year.

Acupuncture and Government Guidelines
So very successful has acupuncture been in helping LBP, that in May 2009, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), published its official Guidelines on: The Management of Persistent Non-Specific Low Back Pain, stating that they considered acupuncture to be one of the most effective treatments available, to help alleviate this painful and debilitating condition, which affects so many people.

Acupuncture and Back Pain
For the classically trained acupuncture practitioner, it is not just enough to effect a short-term remedy, but rather, to try to create the physiological and psychological environment for a patient to be as fit and healthy as they can be, on a longer-term basis.
Therefore, although Back Pain and /or Sciatica (pain down one or both legs), affects only a part of the body, the Oriental approach to disease is to look at the whole person and the many different factors that may be affecting their life, such as their lifestyle, diet, family history, exercise regime and emotional state.  The main objectives of an acupuncture treatment programme is firstly, to alleviate the presenting pain and discomfort, and secondly, to strengthen a patient's overall constitution. This is in order to minimise the possibility of a re-occurrence of the presenting complaint.
